At GOOD PLACE, a unique design method called "Scene Design" is utilized. This approach entails the conceptualization and user experience of a space, which is then defined as a "scene." By aligning our practice with the business activities of our clients and envisioning the future users of the spaces we design, we implement a design approach that proposes specific spaces as solutions. We believe that by designing like this, more and better space gets created in the world. Access GOOD PLACE Newsroom

The headquarters relocation project of Goldwin, a company that develops global brands such as The North Face, has yielded a unified office space of 6,000 square meters. This new space serves as a platform for communication and as a base for the Goldwin's global outreach. In line with the company's commitment to authenticity, only natural materials have been used for all finishing materials. The design concept envisions a harmonious integration of the six floors into a unified entity, akin to a single tree, creating an organic spatial composition with distinct expressions on each floor.

The design was developed based on the client's company name, Phoenix, and was inspired by the concept of Renaissance, with the aim of fostering corporate and cultural revitalization. In light of Phoenix's expertise in real estate, it seems prudent to incorporate natural materials, such as stones and wood, into every detail. The ceiling design has been meticulously crafted to embody the company's image, characterized by a heavy and substantial aesthetic. The railing of the atrium comprises three layers of laminated glass, masterfully crafted to create a sense of depth and dimensionality.

This concept created a space that conveys cleanliness and confidence, while allowing visitors to experience the potential of cellular structures. The bodies of living things are made up of organs made of different types of cells. The idea is expressed through a combination of geometric and clean elements. The addition of water, inspired by its vital role in cells, adds a stunning visual dimension to the design through the incorporation of colors.

The book “In Praise of Shadows” by Junichiro Tanizaki and research about traveller’s behaviors in Kyoto formed foundation of this project. Tanizaki stated that Japanese blessed shadows over the light throughout history which lead to Japanese traditional architecture such as intertwining exterior and interior. The research showed travellers in Kyoto are highly interested in its culture and history, therefore the team set “Unwind and Explore” as a concept and created a hotel where the guests are encouraged to learn, experience and relax.
